Origin

Named for the year everything changed.

Generations back, the Handys worked a farm. They were never poor, but never quite comfortable either — the kind of family that read a year by its weather and trusted the next one to be kinder.

Then came a season unlike the others. One crop came in heavy — far beyond what the ground had ever given — and a single harvest did what a decade of ordinary years could not. It moved the family forward. The course of things bent, quietly and for good, around one remarkable season. The crop was sweet clover.

This company carries that name on purpose. Craig Handy built Sweet Clover as his own version of that season — the bet that compounds, the work that changes the trajectory rather than merely adding to it. A reminder, each time the name is spoken, that fortunes turn on what you choose to plant and how patiently you tend it.

The plant

A fitting thing to be named after.

Sweet clover was never grown for spectacle. Farmers plant it to fix nitrogen and rebuild the soil, leaving the ground richer for whatever comes next. It does its work quietly, underground, out of sight. That is the posture we want toward the companies we touch: arrive early, do the structural work, and leave something that compounds long after.

The Latin hides a second meaning. The genus — Melilotus — takes its root from mel, honey. Sweet clover is one of the great honey plants; bees work it an entire season. Build something genuinely useful, the old logic goes, and the returns find their own way home.
